Prop 8 Marriage Decision Stings But Doesn’t Shock

I suspect more people were surprised with the New York Giants victory in the Super Bowl than were shocked to learn that two members of a three-member panel of the liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals have once again ruled California’s Prop 8 marriage vote to be unconstitutional. The decision will now be appealed and we’re optimistic that the United States Supreme Court will agree to hear the case.

Still, although there is no shock regarding today’s decision, it stings.

The Komen Foundation was Bullied by the Left

The Susan G. Komen foundation succumbed this past Friday to a relentless barrage of political bullying, a fact that is not only sad news for those who cherish the sanctity and dignity of all life, but also for all of us who believe that a private philanthropic organization shouldn’t be subjected to such harassment.

That the Komen foundation apologized for its decision to halt contributions to Planned Parenthood is another illustration that political correctness is running amok.

Why Did President Obama Do This?

Why did he do it?

Why has President Obama decided to force Catholic universities and hospitals to pay for health insurance that will cover such services and drugs as sterilization, contraceptives and possible abortifacients for its employees, despite the Catholic church’s teachings against those practices?

Did he decide to do it in order to shore up the radical liberal base in an election year? Or is he being deliberate in curtailing religious freedoms?

Either answer is very disturbing.

Look Who Cut Off Planned Parenthood

The longtime relationship between Planned Parenthood and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has always struck me as a peculiar alliance. That’s because according to some researchers, there’s evidence of increased risk of breast cancer after an abortion.

Fortunately, this incongruent partnership is no more.

That the nation’s leading breast cancer charity will no longer funnel funds to the nation’s leading abortion provider is a major and long sought victory in the pro-life movement.

Reports indicate that Planned Parenthood was expecting to receive upwards of $680,000 from Susan G.

Why is This So Offensive?

Since 1963 a mural that contains a very brief school prayer has been hanging in the gymnasium of Rhode Island’s Cranston High School.

Prior to the Supreme Court ruling in 1962 that banned official school prayer, students recited it each day. The next year’s graduating class presented the mural as a gift to the school, and there it has hung for nearly 50 years.

That is until a student complained about it and suggested its presence was unconstitutional.

A Gift of Thanks For You

The public’s reaction to the John 3:16 ad which ran during the NFL divisional playoff game between Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos and the Super Bowl-bound New England Patriots has given me and the team here at Focus on the Family a much needed lift.

If You Had One Day to Live Over

The late UCLA basketball legend John Wooden enjoyed incredible success as a coach. He won ten championships in a twelve-year period and finished his career with an astonishing record of 664-162. A man of strong Christian conviction, Coach Wooden received his eternal promotion in 2010 at the age of 99.

He once wrote something that strikes me as a fitting lesson for parents as well as players and coaches.

Can you relate?

If I could go back and pick one single day in my life – in sports – to live over again, my choice might surprise you.

Are You One of the “Crazies” ?

After a relatively quiet few months on the same-sex marriage front, activists in both Washington state and New Jersey have expressed a strong desire to push for legalization via their respective legislatures.

In Washington, some leading giants in corporate America have taken sides. Regrettably, Starbucks, Microsoft and Nike have all expressed strong support for what they view as “marriage equality” even though it’s anything but. As I and others have expressed on numerous occasions, same-sex marriage activists are striving to redefine, not equalize, a multi-millennial institution.

How’s Your “WOW” Factor?

When was the last time you stood and stared in awe and wonder?

I can remember those early days of fatherhood, when I would quietly slip into Trent and Troy’s room and watch their tiny chests rise and fall with every peaceful breath. It left me reaching for words that never came. Not only was I nearly speechless at the beauty of the new life before me, but humbled that I was blessed to have the new name of “Dad.”

In those moonlit nights, David’s words took on new meaning for me:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:14).
